A&M Texarkana Set to Take Ownership of Former Texarkana Golf Ranch in September

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas A&M University Texarkana has announced September 2026 as the month the University will take ownership of the former Texarkana Golf Ranch, currently owned by the City of Texarkana, Texas. In its July Meeting, The Texarkana, TX City Council approved a proposed land swap with Texas A&M University Texarkana, giving the University ownership of the land where the golf course sits in exchange for 133 acres of undeveloped University-owned property nearby. The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents approved the deal during its May 2026 meeting.

Designed in 2000 by the renowned golf course architect Jim Fazio, the course winds through tall pines and sits along the southeast bank of the 600-acre Bringle Lake, providing stunning views from much of the course. The par 72 course stretches more than 7300 yards with a course rating of 76.6. The University has committed to maintaining public play and making significant improvements to the golf course. Dramatic updates are planned, with enhancements designed to elevate play, showcase the natural beauty of the property, and create an unforgettable experience for golfers, making the facility one of the premiere public golf courses in the state.

While exact details and a timeline for renovations have not yet been established, the University plans to start working on improvements immediately. The University has already issued a request for proposal (RFP) for upgrades and design improvements to the existing course. The course will need to be closed for a period, during which current memberships will be paused.

"We plan a comprehensive redesign and significant upgrades and improvements at the golf course, beginning very soon, with completion on an aggressive timeline," said Dr. Ross Alexander, President of Texas A&M University Texarkana. "We appreciate the patience of the existing members as we work to make this golf course one of the premier public golf facilities in the region."

In addition to being the home of the Eagles golf teams, the golf course will allow A&M Texarkana to expand academic programs into new areas as well. "We will be able to add our first agricultural degree to our academic catalog," Dr. Alexander Added. "We will be offering a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with tracks in Plant and Soil Sciences and Golf Course Management."
