The City of Raleigh has installed a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at the crosswalk on Perry Creek Road at Beardall Street in the 5401 North community, east of Louisburg Road.
Many people use this area to walk to homes, parks, neighborhood amenities, and other nearby destinations. This new safety feature will help people cross Perry Creek Road more safely.
To use the RRFB, pedestrians press the button at the crosswalk. The beacon's lights begin flashing to alert drivers that someone is waiting to cross. Once vehicles stop, pedestrians can cross the street safely.
The Federal Highway Administration recommends RRFBs as a proven safety measure. Studies show they can reduce the risk of pedestrian crashes by about 50%.
This safety improvement was installed by the City's Signs and Pavement Markings group and Traffic Signals group. These teams work every day to make Raleigh's streets safer for everyone.
