The City of Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department will open the outdoor ice rink at Hughes Park, 2100 Wilson Ave. SW, on Saturday, December 13, as weather and temperatures allow. The rink is located on the park's basketball court and is available for recreational skating during normal park hours, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The ice rink is unsupervised and should be used at the skater's discretion. Conditions may change quickly due to weather, and Parks & Recreation staff may temporarily close the rink for safety or maintenance as needed. Availability is fully dependent on weather and ice conditions. The latest updates on rink availability and closures will be shared through the Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Facebook page at
Facebook.com/CRParksAndRecreation.
Additional winter recreation opportunities are available throughout the city. Cross-country ski trails are located at Ellis, Gardner, and Twin Pines Golf Courses; Jones, Noelridge, and Seminole Valley Parks; and the Sac and Fox Trail. Sledding hills are located at Bowman, Jones, and Shawnee Parks and are open during park hours when snow conditions allow.
