DALLAS - United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould announced that a Crips gang member and repeat felon was sentenced to more than 37 years in federal prison for drug and gun charges.
In April 2026, a federal jury convicted Jamarian Hewitt, 39, of Dallas, Texas, of possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, using a communication facility to facilitate a drug felony and conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled substance. U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr imposed the 447 months sentence on Oct. 28.
"For years, residents along the Malcolm X corridor lived with the fear and lawlessness that this defendant and his gang helped create," said U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould. "Hewitt turned a storefront into a hub for drugs and guns, all while on probation and out on bond. Today's sentence of more than 37 years sends a clear message: those who terrorize our neighborhoods with drugs and firearms will face serious federal consequences. I commend our partners at ATF and the Dallas Police Department for their work to give this community its streets back."
In January 2024, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives launched "Operation Blue Laces" to identify gang members engaged in criminal activity at two main intersections along the Malcolm X Boulevard corridor in Dallas. The operation was prompted in part by numerous complaints from residents and workers in the neighborhood, who reported that members of the Four-Deuce Oakland Crips had taken over the area and created an environment of fear, openly threatening residents and businesses.

Agents also identified a residential block (2800 block of Casey Street) that was used as an open-air drug market where drugs were sold twenty-four hours a day by gang members and became known as the "Dead End."
At trial, evidence showed that Hewitt used a commercial storefront called "Exotic Pop South Dallas" to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, codeine, prescription drugs and marijuana marketed as "Zillionaire Marijuana" to his customers daily. On Oct. 22, 2024, law enforcement agents executed a search warrant at the storefront location on S. Malcolm X Blvd. and recovered one kilogram of methamphetamine, distribution quantities of marijuana, distribution quantities of prescription pills as well as multiple firearms that were used in furtherance of the drug conspiracy. At Hewitt's residence, agents recovered an additional fourteen pounds of marijuana, multiple prescription pills and ammunition.

At the time Hewitt took part in the drug conspiracy that led to his federal indictment, he was on felony probation in Kaufman and Tarrant Counties and was out on bond in Dallas County.
To date, twelve defendants linked to the Four-Deuce Oakland Crips gang who were identified in "Operation Blue Laces" have been convicted of federal offenses including drug conspiracy, firearms charges and carjacking.
ATF-Dallas Division and the Dallas Police Department conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rick Calvert and Ashley Koos from the Major Crimes section prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
