NEW ORLEANS - JEWELL JACKSON, age 39, of LaPlace, Louisiana was charged with mail fraud in a bill of information filed on October 28, 2026 in the Eastern District of Louisiana, announced U.S. Attorney David I. Courcelle.
According to court documents, JEWELL JACKSON participated in a scheme to defraud the United States of money and property through the filing of false and fraudulent tax forms.
The maximum penalty for mail fraud is twenty years imprisonment, followed by up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Courcelle reiterated that the bill of information is merely a charging document and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
U.S. Attorney Courcelle praised the work of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney, Richard R. Pickens, II, of the Financial Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
On April 7, the Department of Justice announced the creation of the National Fraud Enforcement Division. The core mission of the Fraud Division is to zealously investigate and prosecute those who steal or fraudulently misuse taxpayer dollars. Department of Justice efforts to combat fraud support President Trump's Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, a whole-of-government effort chaired by Vice President J.D. Vance to eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse within Federal benefit programs.
