On Thursday, November 6th, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuţ Moşteanu, had a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Defence of Ukraine, Hanna Hvozdiar, in Bucharest, as part of the NATO-Industry Forum.
The meeting between the two officials was a good opportunity to address topics of common interest in the field of defence and the prospects for bilateral cooperation.
The dignitaries addressed the regional security developments, the support provided to Ukraine and the strengthening of NATO's defence and deterrence posture on the Eastern Flank.
Cooperation opportunities between the two states in the field of defence industry was the main topic of discussion.
Minister Ionut Moșteanu also highlighted the openness of the European member states' community, including Romania, to Ukraine's involvement in the European projects and initiatives in the field of defence.
Also, the officials highlighted the main progress made by Romania in implementing the Security Action for Europe (SAFE) instrument, in order to capitalize on the national defence industry, since Ukraine itself is eligible to participate, alongside the member states, in joint procurements supported by this European financial instrument.
"Our joint efforts at European level should also be based on the lessons learned from Ukraine, especially regarding the importance of creating innovative drone and anti-drone ecosystems. We are interested in exploring the full potential of innovation in the field of defence, including by capitalizing on Ukrainian solutions," the Defence Minister stated.
