DALLAS - Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) will host its second annual Safety Outreach Program on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kiest Station, bringing the community together for a fun, family-friendly event focused on rail safety and public awareness.
The initiative was established to engage communities at stations where recurring safety incidents have been identified. The program provides an opportunity for DART employees, community members, and safety partners to connect, learn, and promote safe practices throughout the transit system.
The event will feature tips on rail safety from Trenise Winters, Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, DART Police Chief Charlie Cato, and Donna Johnson, Senior Vice President and Chief Safety Officer. Operation Lifesaver, a national rail safety initiative dedicated to preventing collisions, injuries and fatalities around railroad tracks and trains, will also be present. Speakers will remain on site to answer questions from attendees.
The family-friendly event will feature a variety of activities including:
Music and entertainment from 97.9 The Beat
Parkland Hospital and other community vendors
Face painting and balloon artists
Games, including Connect 4 and cornhole
The DART Time Machine vehicle
A display featuring new DART buses
A visit from the DART Police mascot
Safety information and educational activities for all ages
"Safety is a shared responsibility, and as a part of operating a safe rail system, it is important that we engage directly with the communities we serve", said Trenise Winters. "We created this program to bring safety awareness and resources directly to communities where we have seen recurring incidents and to help educate residents about making safe choices around trains, tracks and DART facilities."
The community is invited to attend this free event at Kiest Station, 3300 S. Lancaster Rd., Dallas, TX 75216, in the station parking lot.
