BEIJING, Sept. 12 -- The US destroyer Higgins and the UK frigate HMS Richmond transited through the Taiwan Strait and made provocative actions on September 12, 2025. "The Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command sent its navy and air force troops to track and monitor the transit of the two vessels, effectively responding and handling the situation," said Army Senior Colonel Shi Yi, spokesperson for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, in a written statement on Friday.

"The actions of the US and the UK have sent out wrong signals and undermined peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait," slammed the spokesperson, adding that the troops of the Chinese PLA Eastern Theater Command remain on high alert at all times and are ready to resolutely safeguard China's national sovereignty, security, and regional peace and stability.
