REP LIEU STATEMENT ON THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 9/11 TERRORIST ATTACKS

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement commemorating the 25^th Anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

On September 11, 2001, our nation endured the deadliest terrorist attack in modern history, an event that continues to reverberate through American society today. Twenty-five years later, I'm still in awe of the ordinary Americans who performed extraordinary acts of courage like the first responders who ran toward danger, the good Samaritans who risked their lives to help others, and the countless Americans who stepped up for their neighbors, community, and country. As time passes, we can never forget the nearly 3,000 people that died at the World Trade Center, at the Pentagon and on Flight 93, or the first responders and survivors who have since succumbed to illnesses connected to 9/11. While reflecting on that day, we must also remember our country's capacity to come together in times of unimaginable tragedy. In the face of hatred and violence, we can and should choose courage, unity, and compassion.
