GCCC Pools Remain Closed; Temporary Pool Options Available

The Genoveva Chavez Community Center (GCCC) pools remain closed due to a mechanical failure affecting the Natatorium's air circulation and dehumidification system.

The issue began on the night of September 5. Facilities staff and HVAC contractors have been working to diagnose and repair the system. Without this critical equipment operating properly, air quality conditions in the Natatorium are not safe for public use.

On Wednesday, September 9, the fire access control panel was successfully cleared, allowing the City to schedule a vendor with the specialized expertise needed to service the equipment. The vendor is scheduled to be on site Monday, September 14.

The GCCC pools will remain closed while repairs are underway. The City will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Temporary Pool Options

Aquatics and Recreation staff are working to maintain swimming opportunities while the GCCC Natatorium is unavailable. Bicentennial Pool has temporarily reopened, and hours at Fort Marcy Pool have been expanded.

To ensure equitable access during the closure, lane rentals for all user groups have been discontinued at City pools. All users will be treated as public patrons until GCCC is back online.

Friday, September 11: 7:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Monday, September 14: 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Tuesday, September 15: 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

Fort Marcy Pool

Friday, September 11: 6:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Saturday, September 12: 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Additional pool hours and updates will be shared early the week of the 14th.

Classes, Lessons, and Passes

Lessons at GCCC are provided by 505 Swimming, which rents pool space from the City. Families should contact 505 Swimming directly for information regarding scheduled lessons. For all other programming, such as swim teams and lessons - people should reach out directly to their respective organizations.

GCCC-specific passes will be honored at other City pool locations during the closure.

Bicentennial Pool has temporarily reopened to provide additional swimming access and is not closed for the season. How long it remains open, as well as its operating hours, will depend on the duration of the GCCC closure, weather conditions, available daylight, and scheduling.
