Rep. McClain Delaney Votes to Support Service Members and Military Families
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (D-MD) released a statement after voting for the National Defense Authorization Act:
"At a time of extraordinary global security threats, our country needs steady leadership and a strong, well-supported military. That is why I was deeply disappointed that some of my Republican colleagues chose to inject partisan, barely germane amendments into this bill-an effort that only distracts from our shared responsibility to support our military and national defense. I opposed every single one, but the overall impact of this bill remains: it raises pay and benefits for our servicemembers, expands access to reproductive and family health care and protects the health workforce and civil service that underpin our national security.
I voted for the NDAA because at its core, it honors those who serve, protects the families who stand behind them and secures our nation's safety and wellbeing. Maryland is home to more than 25,000 active-duty military personnel, from Fort Detrick to Aberdeen Proving Ground, and I see the sacrifices they make every day-not just overseas, but right here at home.
Supporting our military should not be a partisan issue, but rather a moral obligation. This NDAA is not perfect, but it is an important investment in the people who sacrifice everything for us, their families, and our country."
