The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today that it will use its existing authority to prevent drivers from losing access to E15 - a lower-cost and lower-emission fuel blend that contains 15 percent ethanol. In response, Michigan farmer and Michigan Corn Growers Association President John Delmotte released the following statement:
"We thank President Trump and his administration for ensuring consumers will continue to have access to E15 through the summer months. This is a positive step for Michigan's corn farmers who grow the corn that gets turned into ethanol right here in our state, and it will also ensure that drivers continue to have access to cheaper, cleaner fuel options at the pump. We encourage Governor Whitmer to work with the federal administration and the appropriate state agencies to ensure the waiver is adopted statewide to benefit Michigan motorists this summer driving season.
"While this is an important development, we still need a permanent solution to allow year-round sales of E15. We call on Congress to act quickly to pass this E15 legislation and provide certainty for Michigan farmers and drivers."
