Torry Island Swing Bridge to Close to Some Marine Traffic for 10 Weeks for Necessary Repairs

The Torry Island Swing Bridge at Lake Okeechobee will close to some marine traffic from 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, for 10 weeks as crews conduct needed repairs. Vehicle traffic will be permitted with only temporary, intermittent closures, but motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the area.

Also known as the Point Chosen or Belle Glade Swing Bridge, the 154-foot swing span normally opens on demand for vessels taller than 11 feet. During the closure, vessels requiring less clearance may continue to pass beneath the bridge with caution. Vehicles requiring more clearance shall follow the Route 1 (Open Lake) detour. The bridge is expected to reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2026, fully.

In the event of a hurricane or other emergency, the bridge will open for both vehicle and boat traffic on a limited basis.

The Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department (EPW) appreciates the community's patience and understanding during this temporary inconvenience. We are committed to enhancing the safety and efficiency of the County's infrastructure.
