Dedicated to the warfighter: NSWCDD human resources specialist takes pride in work

In celebration of Human Resources Professionals Day Sept. 26, Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) recognizes Melissa Dean, a human resources specialist in the Staffing and Classification Branch.

With more than 12 years of human resources experience, Dean brings not only that extensive knowledge and expertise to her work, but also a genuine commitment to the people she serves.

Dean earned a Bachelor of Science in human resources management and completed the Level III Human Resources Management Certification through Graduate School USA.

Her formal education has opened doors for her to serve the broad spectrum of the Department of War workforce.

"My dedicated public service has moved from foundational human resource management and administrative roles to strategic human resource management across critical Department of War and joint commands," she said. "My expertise in managing complex human resource systems and providing advisory services to technical workforces has made me a vital asset to the Department of War's mission readiness. It is my honor to provide a service that supports the warfighter in defending our nation."

Known for being responsive, and dependable, Dean has built strong relationships with the employees, managers and leaders she supports. Her depth of HR knowledge allows her to confidently navigate complex issues, while her ability to explain policies and processes in a clear and helpful way puts customers at ease. No matter the question or challenge, Dean approaches each interaction with patience, professionalism and a willingness to help. In fact, according to Ally Regan, head of the Staffing and Classification Branch at the division, what truly sets Dean apart is the way she combines her HR expertise with exceptional customer service.

"Melissa understands that behind every staffing action, classification question or HR request is a person or team counting on her support. She takes the time to listen, understand the situation and provide thoughtful, practical guidance," Regan said.
