Facebook statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán

The Government met today. The extreme weather conditions in January have been a serious test for Hungary. We successfully passed the test which was set by last week's snowfall. During an unusually cold spell, we've ensured supplies of firewood and made warm shelters accessible to everyone. The necessary firewood and warm shelters will continue to be available in the weeks ahead. The freezing weather, however, has brought with it high heating bills, placing a heavy burden on families. Everyone is facing unexpected and significant additional expenses. Therefore the Government has decided to introduce a January energy price cap. This means that the Government will cover families' additional heating costs in January. The unusually harsh winter is not yet over, so please take care of yourselves and look out for one another.
