The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), in collaboration with the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) and the National Fire Agency (NFA), will host the "6th Annual Contest on Overseas Incident & Accident Experiences" (hereinafter referred to as the 'Contest'). This initiative aims to raise public awareness of ways to prevent incidents that may occur abroad and respond to emergencies, while providing practical overseas safety information through real-life cases of consular assistance.
Now in its sixth year, this contest will run from March 16 (Mon) to May 18 (Mon). Following two rounds of evaluation, a total of 10 winning entries will be selected, with total prize money amounting to KRW 7 million. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in mid-July.
The contest features three submission categories: Video, Instatoon (comics of up to 10 panels), and Essays with photographs. The theme should be based on personal experiences of incidents or accidents encountered while traveling abroad and should include at least one of the following: tips for safe overseas travel, strategies for handling dangerous situations abroad, or personal experiences of receiving consular assistance.
The Grand Prize winner will be honored with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Award, while winners of the Top Excellence and Excellence awards in each category will receive the Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency Award or the Commissioner of the National Fire Agency Award. MOFA, the KNPA, and the NFA plan to actively utilize the winning entries to conduct various promotional activities, ensuring that the public can easily understand the consular assistance system and emergency response procedures.
Participants can submit their entries through the official contest website (www.해외사건사고경험담공모전2026.com), and detailed information can also be found on the official websites of MOFA, the KNPA, and the NFA. Since the inaugural contest in 2021, marking the enforcement of the "Consular Assistance Act for the Protection of Overseas Koreans," MOFA has continued to host this annual event alongside the KNPA and the NFA to discover high-quality content based on the public's overseas travel experiences.
