SIOUX CITY - In partnership with Briar Cliff University, the Sioux City Public Library will launch a new program in September, StoryMoves Active Storytime.
Designed for children ages 3-8, the first series of this new storytime will occur Thursdays, September 17, 24 October 1 and 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Aalfs Downtown Library, 529 Pierce St., Sioux City.
"Movement and literacy go hand in hand, developing school readiness in children," said Youth Services Manager Adrienne Dunn. "We are glad to work together with Briar Cliff and its students to provide this important program in Sioux City."
StoryMoves aims to build healthy habits while developing a love of reading in children. Led by students from Briar Cliff's Exercise and Health Sciences program, each session blends storytime with simple movement activities such as hopping, jumping, balancing, and playful games.
"StoryMoves gives our students a unique opportunity to take what they are learning about motor development and put it into practice while making a meaningful impact in our community," said Assistant Professor of Exercise and Health Sciences Courtney Kuenn."We are excited to partner with the Sioux City Public Library to create fun, developmentally appropriate experiences that help children build movement skills, confidence, and a love of both reading and being active."
