LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today was joined by LAPD leadership and officers at the Olympic Division to announce that the LAPD has made more than 100 burglary-related arrests over the last 30 days, including several tied to organized burglary crews targeting homes and businesses across Los Angeles. Burglaries are down 30 percent in L.A. compared to last year.
"We are acting strategically and aggressively to stop organized burglary crews from targeting Angelenos," said Mayor Bass. "Over the last month alone, the LAPD has made more than 100 burglary-related arrests, including arrests connected to international criminal organizations operating in our communities. These efforts require resources, manpower and officers on the ground - and that is why I will continue fighting to hire more LAPD officers to keep Angelenos safe."
"Thank you, Mayor Bass, for your continued support of the brave men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department," said Deputy Chief Gerald Woodyard. "While these reductions are encouraging, the Los Angeles Police Department remains committed to aggressive enforcement, strategic deployment, and strong community partnerships to continue driving burglary numbers down and protecting all neighborhoods across the City."
Under Mayor Bass' direction, LAPD's Operations-Valley Bureau has implemented the following strategies to reduce residential burglaries along Ventura Boulevard:
Extra patrols by Patrol Officers, Detectives, and Specialized Units
Deployment of LAPD vehicles in high-visibility locations
Utilization of mobile License Plate Readers (LPRs) around high-risk burglary areas
Active community engagement by Senior Lead Officers (SLOs)
Air support to provide high-visibility patrol and deterrence
Close collaboration with other specialized divisions, including the Commercial Crimes Division and the Robbery Homicide Division, to investigate high-value loss burglaries
