State Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton said, "Our firefighters go to work each day, ready to put their lives on the line to protect our communities, and some, like the individuals whose names are inscribed on the memorial here today, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Every single one of the firefighters named on this wall truly embodies what it means to be a hero: running towards danger when others run away and answering the call even when it puts their own safety at risk. These brave men and women are truly heroes and they should be honored and recognized not just today, but every day."
Assemblymember John T. McDonald III, RPh said, "Today, we honor the 53 firefighters whose names are being added to the Memorial Wall and remember the 2,871 New York firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage and selflessness will never be forgotten, and we owe a lasting debt of gratitude to their families and fellow firefighters who carry their memory forward. We must also continue supporting the brave men and women who answer the call every day and ensuring they have the resources and training they need to keep our communities safe."
