Sandusky, Ohio - In August, the Erie County Health Department (ECHD) and Erie County Community Health Center (ECCHC) received prestigious recognition from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), earning five Quality Leader Awards and reaffirmation of their Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) status. Notably, ECCHC received the HRSA Gold Award for quality for the second consecutive year, making it one of only five entities in Ohio to achieve this distinction in 2025.
"These awards reflect the Erie County Health Department's unwavering dedication to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to every resident," said Congresswoman Kaptur (OH-09). "Access to exceptional healthcare is essential, and I'm proud to see our community set a standard for excellence that serves as a model for Ohio and the nation. I have fought in Washington for federal awards to help our local health departments across Northwest Ohio, and have delivered Millions in federal investment for Erie County alone. By working together at the federal and local level, we help create healthier communities for all of our people."
The HRSA Quality Leader Awards honor health centers demonstrating superior performance across critical quality measures, including access to care, health outcomes, and value. Receiving five awards underscores the department's commitment to improving the health and lives of Erie County residents.
"These achievements are not just accolades for our department; they represent our deep commitment to improving the health and lives of everyone in our community," said Kristina Knight, Grant Writing & Marketing Supervisor at the Erie County Health Department. "We believe that access to high-quality, coordinated care is fundamental, and these recognitions affirm that we are meeting and exceeding national standards."
The Erie County Health Department continues to invest in innovative services and facilities, including expanded accessibility at its Main Campus, enhanced detox services, and supportive housing initiatives such as the Kaptur-Rogowski House, further strengthening its capacity to serve the community. This Kaptur-Rogowski House project was funded through $2 Million in Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education federal funding secured by Congresswoman Kaptur in July 2021. Congresswoman Kaptur also previously delivered $1 Million in Department of Justice funding for ECHD to combat the Opioid Epidemic in October, 2022, $1.8 Million in HHS SAMHSA award funding to ECHD in October, 2023, and $1 Million in HHS Quality Improvement Fund - Justice Involved program award funding in November, 2024.
