Congressman Morgan McGarvey on War Powers Resolution Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 5, 2026) - Today, Congressman Morgan McGarvey released the following statement on his vote in favor of H. Con. Res. 38, a war powers resolution to direct the President to remove U.S. Armed Forces from unauthorized hostilities in Iran:

"The decision to go to war is so consequential that our founders were clear: no one person - not a president or a king - should have that power. The grave responsibility of putting our servicemembers in harm's way, plus spending the billions of taxpayer dollars this war will cost, rests squarely with Congress and the people who send them there.

"Congress never authorized Trump's illegal war, and based on what we've been told so far, they shouldn't. Even in a classified briefing, this administration couldn't justify their actions, couldn't guarantee they won't send our troops onto Iranian streets, and couldn't explain any strategic endgame.

"It's an insult to cut money for families' health care and food assistance, then hand them the bill for a war nobody asked for and nobody can explain."

Last June, McGarvey cosponsored a similar resolution, but House Republican leadership has failed to consider the bill.
