Deceased pedestrian identified after August 19 crash at Garden of the Gods Road and Northpark Drive

On August 19, 2026, at 12:13 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) was notified of a traffic crash in the area of Garden of the Gods Road and Northpark Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed a vehicle was eastbound on Garden of the Gods Road when it struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and participated in the investigation. Due to the nature of the crash, detectives from the Major Crash Team were notified and assumed the investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.

On August 20, 2026, CSPD was notified by the El Paso County Coroner's Office that the deceased pedestrian had been identified as 39-year-old Amanda Garcia.

This incident marks the 40th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced 37 traffic fatalities. Over the past 365 days, there have been 56 traffic-related fatalities within the city.
