What You Need to Know about Upcoming Building Code Changes
THE BUILDING CODES ARE CHANGING EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026. PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR PROJECTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO ENSURE REVIEW UNDER THE 2022 EDITION OF THE CALIFORNIA BUILDING CODES.
A FEW OF THE MORE SIGNIFICANT CHANGES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
- Additional mandates for electric vehicle chargers and infrastructure
- Significant increases in snow load design values
- More stringent wildland fire construction standards
- Enhanced energy efficiency standards
- Additional requirements for bicycle parking
- Updated seismic design standards
- New accessibility mandates and indoor air ventilation standards for apartments
