Canada and Alberta are expanding high-speed Internet access in the province
On September 15, 2026, the Honourable Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State for Rural Development, together with the Honourable Nate Glubish, Alberta's Minister of Technology and Innovation, announced funding to bring high-speed Internet access to communities in Alberta.
Here is an overview of Alberta's connectivity status:
- As of August 2026, 98.1% of Alberta households have access to high-speed Internet (at least 50 Megabits per second download and 10 Megabits per second upload [50/10 Mbps+])
- In 2017, 82.6% of Alberta households had access to high-speed Internet (50/10 Mbps+).
Two projects are being supported by $24.8 million in co-funding from the governments of Canada and Alberta:
