City Shares Fall Yard Waste Collection Reminders

As leaves begin to fall, the City is reminding residents how to properly prepare yard waste for collection.

Yard Waste Collection Guidelines:

  • Place leaves and other yard waste in your City-issued 95-gallon gray yard waste cart(s).
  • Bag additional leaves using biodegradable paper yard waste bags and/or bundle sticks with natural twine (no cords). The City collects up to 10 bags/bundles weekly year-round. From Monday, November 2 to Friday, February 12, crews will collect up to 15 biodegradable paper bags/bundles of yard waste.

  • Leave your leaves where they fall to provide important habitats for wildlife and other species.
  • Compost or mulch your leaves.

Residents are reminded that yard waste may not be placed in streets or the public right-of-way, even temporarily.

The City's first priority is to educate residents about proper yard waste disposal and provide an opportunity to correct violations before fines are issued.

Residents found in violation of the yard waste collection policy will receive a warning and have 14 days to properly prepare the leaves. During this 14 day period, no additional leaf piles may be placed at the curb, in the street, or in the right-of-way.

When crews return after 14 days, if any loose leaves are present, whether from the original pile or a new one, a $75 fine will be issued. If the leaves are still present after an additional 14 days, it will be considered a nuisance and the fine will increase to $500.

Residents may purchase an additional gray yard waste cart for $65 by calling the City's Contact Center at 336-373-CITY (2489).
