Starting April 17 through April 20, 2026, additional officers with the Lincoln Police Department will be deployed throughout the city to proactively address impaired driving and help keep our roads safe.
Officers assigned to this enforcement detail have received advanced training in drug impairment detection and will be specifically focused on identifying impaired drivers, preventing crashes, and taking dangerous drivers off the road before someone gets hurt. This effort is made possible through grant funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office, which supports overtime for increased enforcement.
Drivers are reminded: If you feel different, you drive different. Drug impairment, whether from marijuana, prescription medication, or other substances, affects reaction time, judgment, coordination and the ability to safely operate a vehicle. All these significantly increase the risk of serious or fatal crashes.
Driving under the influence of drugs carries the same legal consequences as alcohol impairment. If you are stopped and found to be impaired, you will be arrested for DUI. Your decisions behind the wheel impact not only your safety, but the safety of everyone in our community.
