U.S. Senator Katie Britt Votes to Advance U.S. Attorney Nominee Sean Costello, Delivers Remarks of Support

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) attended a Senate Judiciary Committee executive business meeting where the committee voted to advance the nomination of Alabamian Sean Costello, President Trump's nominee serve as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Costello, a native of Mobile, now awaits confirmation by the full Senate.

His nomination advanced out of the Judiciary Committee on a strong bipartisan vote of 17-5.

Senator Britt expressed her strong support for Mr. Costello's nomination:

"I just wanted to say a few words in support of Sean Costello's nomination to be U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama. Look, he has been serving this district for over 20 years. During that time, he rose through the ranks as the Chief of the Criminal Division in 2018, and he's been serving as the Interim U.S. Attorney since 2021. Prior to his time in [that] office, he served for several years here at main Justice in D.C., (and) he was also a legislative aide to both Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions. During his time as a federal prosecutor, he has tried 28 cases to final verdict and has pursued cases on a wide range of criminal conduct, including child exploitation, national security, terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and corporate fraud. Sean has devoted his entire career to public service and working on the behalf of the people of Alabama and the Southern District. Senator Tuberville and I were proud to recommend him to President Trump for this nomination, and I urge my colleagues for a yes vote. Thank you."
