Over the past few months, we've witnessed a troubling and all-too-familiar pattern repeat itself. A pattern that has led us, yet again, to a painful but undeniable truth: violence solves nothing.

This growing tendency to respond with violence has only brought us loss, blame, and sorrow. It tears communities apart, deepens our divisions, and dims the light that guides us forward. The fighting, hateful rhetoric, and acts of political violence threaten us all. It must stop.

In this country, we cherish the freedom to peacefully disagree. As an elected official, I understand that political debate is part of the role, but it is essential that everyone, regardless of their views, can speak freely without fear of harm.

In a time marked by division and unrest, let us choose unity and understanding. If we practice patience, embrace tolerance, and make space for differing perspectives, we can uphold our democratic values and our shared responsibility to one another.

No matter our backgrounds or beliefs, we must commit to civility. Differences in opinion don't have to divide us. We can stay focused on our mission to serve and move forward with a united purpose: putting our community first.
