The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation, Hon. Viliame Gavoka, is leading Fiji's delegation to ITB Berlin in Germany, where Fiji joins more than 180 countries at the world's premier international tourism trade exhibition.
Accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Fiji, Dr. Paresh Pant, regional staff and senior industry representatives, the delegation is leveraging the global platform to strengthen strategic partnerships, reinforce market presence and promote Fiji's premium tourism offerings.
ITB Berlin provides direct access to key European tour operators, aviation partners, wholesalers and investors. With tourism contributing approximately 40 per cent of Fiji's GDP, sustained engagement at this level ensures the country remains competitive in a marketplace increasingly shaped by sustainability standards, digital transformation and evolving traveller expectations.
Europe remains an important high-yield market for Fiji. In 2025, the region accounted for 4.7 per cent of total visitor arrivals, including 32,757 travellers from Continental Europe and 13,607 from the United Kingdom, reflecting continued opportunity for growth in the long-haul segment.
The Deputy Prime Minister's participation underscores Government's commitment to strengthening air connectivity and advancing the high-value, low-impact tourism model outlined in Fiji's National Sustainable Tourism Framework. During the week, the Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to meet high-ranking Tourism officials of the Federal Government of Germany and prominent global tour operators.
Fiji is exhibiting alongside other Pacific Island destinations, reinforcing a collective regional presence and highlighting tourism's critical role in economic resilience and climate adaptation for Small Island Developing States.
"Our engagement at ITB Berlin underscores Fiji's commitment to strengthening global partnerships, expanding high-value tourism markets, and ensuring sustainable growth for Fiji and the wider Pacific." - said DPM Gavoka.
In speaking with Fiji's Trade and Press Partners, Hon. Gavoka also shared Fiji's recent removal from the European Union's list of non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes.
"Fiji's removal from the EU's list of non-cooperative jurisdictions is a positive development that strengthens confidence in Fiji as a trusted destination for investment and travel. For tourism, it sends a clear signal to our European partners that we are committed to transparency, stability, and strong governance."
On the margins of ITB Berlin, Fiji will also be formally recognised for excellence in tourism destination and governance at an event hosted by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) reflecting the industry's continued dedication to quality and sustainable destination management.
Fiji's participation at ITB Berlin signals a clear commitment to ensuring tourism continues to deliver inclusive prosperity for the nation and the wider Pacific region.
