New video highlights unique Spanish teacher exchange program

The innovative Exchange Visiting Teachers from Spain program connects Iowa schools with native Spanish teachers, helping to fill vacant Spanish and dual language teaching positions and providing a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and learning.

Sponsored by a partnership between the Iowa Department of Education and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Spain, the program focuses on the exchange of culture and offers foreign nationals with opportunities to work in and experience living in Iowa and the United States for a period of up to 3-5 years. The program enriches local communities through the exchange of information and fellowship and allows the visiting teachers to apply their experiences to their classrooms back in Spain.

This Department video feature highlights the newest cohort of teachers from Spain and offers insight into what teachers are hoping to experience during their time in Iowa.

The application of intent for the 2027-28 cohort will open in December. Information on the program opportunity can be found on the Department's Exchange Visiting Teachers from Spain webpage. Specific questions on how Iowa schools can participate can be directed to Stefanie Rosenberg Wager, administrative consultant, at [email protected].
