HARRISBURG - Following his vote for the 2025-26 state budget, Rep. Dane Watro (R-Luzerne/Schuylkill) issued this statement:
"The passage of this long-delayed state budget represents a return to responsible governing and a commitment to core principles that put Pennsylvanians first.
"As part of this agreement, we are reasserting the authority of the General Assembly by repealing, through statute, the regulations that forced Pennsylvania into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. This action restores legislative oversight, protects and creates family-sustaining energy jobs, eliminates a cause of increased energy bills and revitalizes our Commonwealth's energy industry that will help ensure a reliable energy grid.
"This budget also makes significant strides in expanding opportunity and protecting taxpayer integrity. By doubling the amount of scholarships available for students in economically disadvantaged schools, we're giving more families a lifeline to choose the education that best fits their children's needs. We're also standing up for school choice by preserving cyber charter schools as a viable option for parents and students. We're reinforcing benefit integrity to ensure that those who receive public assistance are those who truly need it. Finally, we're returning taxpayer money directly to low- to moderate-income working Pennsylvanians and their families through a new tax credit program that helps workers keep more of what they earn.
"These measures are good for the people of the 116th Legislative District and move Pennsylvania toward a stronger, more sustainable future."
