NETL Launches ClaiMM, the First Digital Platform Supporting Source-to-Supply Critical Minerals and Materials Research

NETL has launched ClaiMM, the first and only digital platform dedicated to supporting U.S. research across the full critical minerals and materials (CMM) value chain, unlocking digital tools and data from source to supply. Hosted on NETL's Energy Data eXchange(EDX®), ClaiMM gives CMM researchers, scientists and stakeholders access to curated CMM datasets, databases, models, tools and services within a secure, authoritative and adaptive digital research library.

Designed as a centralized system to build upon foundational CMM datasets, tools and artificial intelligence (AI) driven services and applications, ClaiMM enables cross-sector collaboration and rapid innovation across the CMM ecosystem. While other platforms offer data and visualization tools for CMM research, ClaiMM is the only platform that unlocks source-to-supply insights, including prospects, feedstocks, processing, manufacturing and supply chain modeling.

"ClaiMM provides a dynamic digital foundation for research in critical minerals and materials," said ClaiMM Technical Portfolio Lead Jennifer Bauer. "It enables teams across disciplines to rapidly build upon existing data and tools to generate novel insights and drive progress in national priorities around energy security and resource independence."

ClaiMM's launch marks a major leap in digital collaboration for the CMM community by integrating advanced AI and machine learning capabilities to accelerate research and decision-making. These tools enable users to understand where to best focus their attention, leading to insights that would be time-consuming and costly to uncover through traditional methods. As the platform evolves, ClaiMM will support in-platform model execution and deliver intelligent recommendations, guiding users toward the most relevant datasets, tools or products for their specific research challenges.

"ClaiMM is an evolving research ecosystem," Bauer said. "We're building toward a future where stakeholders can not only access CMM tools and datasets but also receive AI-assisted recommendations on which tools to use and how to maximize their insights and expand the value of their investments."

Additionally, the connections between ClaiMM and other related NETL CMM efforts support digital engineering and data science solutions across a growing network of CMM-related initiatives.

ClaiMM includes the following features:

• Interoperable datasets, databases, models, software, tools and services from EDX® and other authoritative sources.

• Big data storage enabled by leading cloud providers.

• AI-informed solutions to address fundamental knowledge gaps.

• Advanced processing, analytics and visualization.
