Priorities defined for further progress in EU accession process

Head of the Operational Team for the Accession Process of the Republic of Serbia to the European Union and Chief Negotiator Danijel Apostolović, who is also the Head of the Mission of the Republic of Serbia to the EU, held a meeting today with the chairmen of all negotiating groups.

The meeting referred to the results of the self-assessment regarding the implemented recommendations from the European Commission's Annual Report for 2025, which all institutions, upon Apostolović's instructions, prepared for their respective areas.

In addition to the recommendations that have been implemented, special attention was paid to priority activities that can be implemented by the next reporting deadline, as well as activities in areas where partial progress can be achieved.

Apostolović stressed that better grades in the next annual report of the European Commission are an absolute priority and that it is necessary for all actors in this process to accelerate the execution of their tasks to the greatest extent possible.

He announced that he will initiate a joint meeting with the European Commission on the topic of the next annual report, in order to determine whether there is a common view of the situation regarding the fulfillment of recommendations.

Apostolović also reiterated that all regulations related to harmonisation with the EU acquis, i.e., the fulfillment of membership obligations, must go through the consultation process with the European Commission and must be included in the procedure in the National Assembly only after they receive the green light from the EC.

Representatives of all negotiating groups briefly presented an overview of the situation in their areas, pointing out successfully completed activities, but also the challenges and obstacles that need to be overcome in the coming period.

More than 70 representatives of relevant institutions responsible for the accession negotiations process actively participated in the meeting.
