You're invited: New West Fire and Rescue Open House

New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services is dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires through prevention, safety education and community outreach.

As part of this effort, we will be holding our annual Open House on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Glenbrook Fire Hall (McBride & East 6th Ave). This is a FREE event!

This year's theme is "Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home," which serves to remind us of the importance of using, charging and recycling lithium-ion batteries safely to reduce the risk of fires in homes and communities.

This event allows the public to not only see behind the scenes at a fire hall but gives them an opportunity to network with the various emergency and community services available in New Westminster. The event takes place rain or shine with visitors enjoying this annual informative, educational and interactive event.

Some of what you'll enjoy includes:

  • The firefighters will demonstrate an auto extrication and will also have a rope rescue set up
  • The Quake Cottage is returning to provide an educational experience of what it is like to go through a major earthquake and how to prepare
  • Meet the Community Liaison Officers from the Crises Response Pilot Project
  • Warming the Homeless, a not-for-profit, will also be collecting donations of new winter toques, winter socks, winter gloves, vinyl rain ponchos, hand warmer packets, and feminine hygiene products

The New Westminster Firefighter Charitable will also have their annual BBQ (by donation) at the event.

Our Open House starts off Fire Prevention Week which is observed each year during October in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8th, 1871 and caused devastating damage.

We look forward to seeing you!
