NOW HIRING: Corrections Officers and Road Workers

Are you in need of a job where you can positively contribute to your community? St. Charles County is hiring for two crucial teams that serve the public good.

The County's Department of Corrections is hiring 18 Corrections Officers-a job that's challenging, but rewarding, and can serve as a gateway to a career in public safety.

Candidates need a mix of dedication, upbeat mindset, and respect for people from all walks of life.

"We're looking for people who are positive, who are energetic," says Corrections Director Dan Keen.

As a big perk of the job, the longer shifts of Corrections Officers means they only have 13 working days per month.

The Department just hosted a two-day job fair and has been advertising online, bringing in 125 applications since the beginning of October, including 51 the week of the event. Applications continue to be accepted even while current applicants are under review.

If outdoor work is more your speed, the County Highway Department is looking to hire five street maintenance workers for the crews that pour concrete in the summer, plow snow in the winter, and otherwise keep the County roads in good condition. During the coming cold months, operating plow trucks is an important part of these team members' work.

"We prefer candidates have a minimum of a Class B CDL (commercial driver's license), but we will train new hires to obtain a CDL if they do not have one," says Highway Superintendent Ted Dunkmann. "Construction experience is also preferred."
