The Home Depot Launches Special-Edition Bucket in Support of $500,000 Pledge to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation

Ahead of the 25th anniversary of September 11, The Home Depot is expanding its support for the nation's veterans, first responders and their families with a $500,000 donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

To help fund this contribution, The Home Depot is introducing special-edition Tunnel to Towers buckets in stores and online at homedepot.com. For every bucket sold, $1 goes directly toward the company's $500,000 business-side donation.

"This special-edition bucket gives our customers a simple way to join us in honoring the legacy of September 11 while helping ensure those who have sacrificed for our country receive the support they deserve," added Chris Waits, merchandising vice president for paint at The Home Depot.

A Legacy of Support

The Home Depot Foundation has partnered with The Tunnel to Towers Foundation since 2011 to address critical housing needs for veterans and first responders. Currently, more than 1 million post-September 11 veterans live with significant service-connected disabilities.

Over the last 15 years, the collaboration has:

• Awarded more than $26 million in grants to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
• Enabled the construction of over 130 mortgage-free, fully accessible smart homes to help catastrophically injured combat veterans regain their independence.
• Provided Gold Star families with mortgage-free homes alongside programs addressing veterans' homelessness.

Stephen's Story

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was established by the Siller family in memory of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001.

On that morning, Stephen had just finished his shift and was on his way to play golf with his brothers when he heard news of the attacks on the World Trade Center over his scanner. He immediately turned his truck around to join his squad. When traffic blocked the entrance to the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, Stephen strapped on 60 pounds of gear and ran through the tunnel to the World Trade Center, sacrificing his life to save others.

Tunnel to Towers honors Stephen's memory by continuing to support the country's military and first responder families. Supporting this mission, Team Depot has lined the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk course with 3,000 American flags for more than a decade.
