Senator Hassan Statement on Continued Efforts to Keep Government Open and Stop Outrageous, Lawless Behavior by ICE

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) released the following statement today regarding her continued efforts to keep important government services funded and also enact common-sense protections for the basic civil rights of Americans against the recent lawless behavior by ICE:

"The American people want their government to remain open, and they are also demanding an end to the deliberate intimidation, trampling of civil rights, and outrageous lawlessness by ICE agents that have left two American citizens shot dead. Our immigration enforcement needs to combine strong border security with a focus on removing violent criminals from our country - which this Administration is failing to do through its divisive, dangerous, and deadly actions.

"Thanks to the voices of Granite Staters and Americans across the country, the Senate has worked in a bipartisan manner to help avoid a widespread government shutdown and now can negotiate a path forward. Today's vote pays our troops and helps fund schools, winter heating assistance, and other essential services for Granite Staters until October - while establishing an urgent two-week window for Congress to reach an agreement on meaningful reforms to ICE.

"I will continue to fight alongside all Granite Staters to protect the ability for people to access the government services that they count on, while also standing up to the Trump Administration's attacks on public safety and our basic civil rights as Americans."
