Penn State Altoona student-athletes Corey Chamberlain, of Claysburg, and Jake Hillard, of State College, earned weekly awards from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference on April 7 when the league office announced that Chamberlain was its Pitcher of the Week and Hillard was its Player of the Week.
LATROBE, Pa. - Four Penn State Altoona women's soccer student-athletes were voted to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference squad, as the league office released its postseason awards for the sport on Nov. 11.
Defender Madeline Boser, of Beaver, was a second-team All-AMCC selection, while forward Kira Trexler, of Martinsburg, midfielder Rachel Rutkowski, of Canonsburg, and goalkeeper Mya Torres, of Culpeper, VA, were all third-team all-conference picks.
Boser started all 18 games for the Lions this fall. She makes her second appearance on an All-AMCC team, after earning third-team recognition as a freshman last year. Boser helped lead Penn State Altoona's back line to one of its best seasons in recent history, as the Lions surrendered only four goals in regular-season conference play.
Trexler started 13 games during an exceptional freshman campaign, before her season was cut short due to injury in October. Despite missing her team's last five games, she still ranks among the league leaders in several offensive categories, including being eighth in the AMCC in assists (6), 11th in points (16), 16th in goals scored (5), 17th in shots on goal (16), and 19th in shots attempted (26). Trexler also picked up two AMCC Offensive Player of the Week awards during the season.
Rutkowski finished her four-year Lions career with another strong performance this fall, during which she made 17 starts for Penn State Altoona. The versatile midfielder played multiple roles for the team this season, including center back, defensive midfielder, and attacking midfielder. She finished the season with one goal scored, two assists, 17 shots attempted, and eight shots on goal. This is Rutkowski's third career AMCC all-conference selection.
Torres, in her first season with the Penn State Altoona women's soccer program, made 17 starts at keeper, logging 1,493 minutes between the pipes. She finished the season with a 5-5-6 overall record and ranked second in the AMCC in save percentage (.835), third in shutouts (6) and saves (111), and fourth in wins (5) while compiling a 1.33 goals-against average. Torres also earned a pair of AMCC Defensive Player of the Week nods during the season.
The Penn State Altoona women's soccer team went 6-6-6 overall this fall, including a 2-2-4 mark within the AMCC that placed the Lions fifth in the conference standings by the conclusion of the regular season. The team went on to reach the semifinal round of the AMCC Tournament.
