New York, N.Y. - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) released the following statement after Instacart announced it is ending all AI-driven item price tests on its platform following Leader Schumer's demand last week:

"Instacart's decision to end all item price tests is a clear victory for consumers and comes after I sounded the alarm and pushed regulators to crack down on shady, AI-driven pricing practices that were hitting families' pocketbooks at the grocery checkout.

"Letting companies use AI to quietly charge different shoppers different prices for the same exact items was creepy, costly, and unfair. The bottom line is that companies should not be allowed to treat grocery shopping like a pricing experiment that hurts consumers.

"Ending these AI-driven price tests is an important step toward restoring fairness and transparency for families and seniors who are already stretched thin by high costs and inflation.

"I will keep fighting to make sure families and seniors in New York and across the country are prioritized over profits."
