ABC Applauds Confirmation of Macy and Prouty to NLRB

WASHINGTON, Aug. 7-Associated Builders and Contractors today commended the U.S. Senate for confirming James Macy and David Prouty to serve on the National Labor Relations Board by a vote of 51-47, restoring the board's quorum and ensuring it can continue carrying out its important responsibilities on behalf of America's workers and employers.

"The National Labor Relations Board plays a vital role in ensuring timely and consistent application of federal labor law," said Kristen Swearingen, ABC vice president of government affairs. "The Senate's confirmation of James Macy and David Prouty restores the board's quorum and provides greater certainty for employers and employees alike. A fully functioning NLRB is essential to reducing the growing case backlog and ensuring labor disputes are resolved in a timely and predictable manner."

ABC joined the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace and other employer organizations in supporting the nominees and urging the Senate to act before the board lost its quorum. Without a quorum, the NLRB would have been unable to issue decisions, creating additional uncertainty for the construction industry and the broader employer community.

ABC looks forward to working with the reconstituted board to promote balanced labor policies that protect employee rights, provide certainty for employers and support a fair and competitive labor environment for the merit shop construction industry.
