The university has announced plans to install a new synthetic turf softball field, along with a complementary turf enhancement to its baseball facility, marking a significant investment in the future of its softball program and overall athletic infrastructure.
The new softball field will serve as the focal point of the project, providing a dedicated, high-performance competition and training venue designed to elevate the student-athlete experience and support long-term program success. The turf surface will deliver consistent playing conditions, reduce weather-related disruptions, and allow for expanded practice and competition opportunities throughout the academic year. Completion of the softball field is expected by September.
In addition to the softball field, the project includes the installation of a synthetic turf surface on the baseball field. This enhancement will transform the space into a multipurpose facility capable of supporting baseball as well as a regulation soccer configuration, increasing its year-round usability for varsity athletics, club sports, intramurals, and broader campus programming. Completion of the baseball field is expected by November.
"This substantial capital investment in both softball and baseball facilities at Brandeis reflects the critical need for high-quality, accessible facilities that support the full breadth of our athletic programs," said Director of Athletics Jessica Chapin '10. "These projects will have a meaningful impact on our student-athletes by enhancing their daily experience, strengthening our programs' ability to train and compete at a high level, and creating spaces that serve and connect the greater Brandeis community."
The baseball and multipurpose field component is being made possible through a partnership with New England Football Club (NEFC), which will serve as an anchor tenant for that space. This collaboration reflects a strategic approach to facility development, allowing Brandeis to expand and enhance its athletic offerings while maintaining priority access for its varsity programs.
"This partnership will provide NEFC players with access to a first-class, year-round training and competition environment that directly supports their continued development. Securing a long-term commitment for a training facility is a game-changer for our teams." said Brian Mazar, President of NEFC. "Training and competing on a high-quality turf field in this environment will enhance the overall experience for our players, families, and coaches."
Together, these projects represent a significant investment in Brandeis Athletics and the University's continued commitment to enhancing facilities that support student-athlete success, recreation, wellness, and community engagement.
