ARUP Laboratories' Tracy George, MD, chief scientific officer and president of the Innovation Business Unit (IBU), has been named a 2026 Utah Business Woman To Watch, recognizing her influence, innovation, and leadership.
"I'm honored to be included among this group," George said. "This recognition reflects the work of so many teams focused on advancing diagnostics and helping patients get answers and access to care."
Each year, Utah Business magazine honors a group of women who are making an impact while building toward the future. George was selected from more than 300 nominations.
George is a world-renowned hematopathologist and a leading global expert in mast cell disease. A full professor of Pathology at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah, she has performed central pathology review for every major clinical trial in systemic mastocytosis (SM) worldwide and has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications.
At ARUP, George has been a steady and visionary force. As the inaugural president of ARUP's IBU, she has unified and accelerated the company's research and innovation strategy.
Under her leadership, the ARUP Institute for Research and Innovation in Diagnostic and Precision Medicine™ was launched to drive the development of cutting-edge diagnostics, including a blood-based biomarker test for Alzheimer's disease, the first high-sensitivity assay for a key mutation in SM, and the first widely available commercial test for hereditary alpha-tryptasemia. George has also helped expand artificial intelligence (AI)-augmented parasitology screening and established partnerships, such as ARUP's collaboration with Tasso, to broaden access to diagnostic testing through remote blood collection technologies.
George remains a practicing hematopathologist and mentor to emerging leaders. Her work reflects the spirit of the Utah Business Woman To Watch award, which is forward-looking, impactful, and ever-evolving.
