Center for School and Community Partnership researchers Hannah Calvert, Michaela Lowe, Nate Anderson, Teri Lewis and Lindsey Turner published findings on effective implementation of School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (SWPBIS) in rural schools. Their research was published in the Journal of Positive Behavioral Interventions on April 30.
The team's research highlighted practical lessons learned from a three-year randomized trial in 40 rural K-12 schools across Idaho, focusing on which strategies contributed to successful SWPBIS implementation to support positive student behavior outcomes.
The team found that leadership support, staff buy-in, team collaboration and ongoing external support helped educators in rural districts successfully implement SWPBIS strategies. In addition, rural stakeholders valued initial in-person technical assistance and ongoing virtual support with peer collaborators.
The Center for School and Community Partnerships, housed in the College of Education, focuses on building partnerships to support schools, educators and students across Idaho.
