DLA Distribution completes global warehouse modernization with Hill, Utah Go-Live, focus shifts to stabilization

Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Hill, Utah, has transitioned to the modernized Warehouse Management System, marking the final site in the command's global network to adopt the platform. This milestone completes a multi-year global rollout across all 24 DLA Distribution locations.

With implementation complete, the command will shift its primary focus to system stabilization across the network, maximizing the platform's capabilities and maintaining uninterrupted logistics support to the joint force through its global storage and distribution network.

"The WMS go-live at DLA Distribution Hill is a significant milestone for our global modernization efforts," said Army Brig. Gen. Kevin Cotman, DLA Distribution commanding general. "The team at Hill and our experts across the enterprise built on the lessons learned from our other 23 sites to make this deployment a success."

DLA Distribution began modernizing its warehouse operations in June 2018 with a pilot implementation at DLA Distribution Corpus Christi, Texas. Over the next several years, the command's efforts to phase out its legacy Distribution Standard System, incrementally deployed the new SAP-based system across Army, Navy, and Marine Corps support sites, as well as major hubs like DLA Distribution San Joaquin, California, and overseas locations in Germany, South Korea, Japan and Italy.

During the late 2025 rollout at DLA Distribution Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, the agency's largest site, the command introduced a dedicated, multicomponent WMS Task Force. This model was later adapted to manage the complex operations at Air Logistics Centers, beginning with Warner Robins, Georgia, in February 2026, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, in May 2026, and concluding at Hill this week.

DLA Distribution Hill provides direct logistics support to the Ogden Air Logistics Complex, headquartered at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The workforce manages receiving, storage, packing, and shipping for key weapon systems, including the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt, C-130 Hercules, and intercontinental ballistic missile systems. The site also supports depot-level overhaul and repair operations and manages the assembly of the Army's Deployable Medical Systems.

"The go-live process at Hill was efficient because we benefited from the experiences of the 23 sites that transitioned before us," said James McArthur, director of DLA Distribution Hill, Utah. "By using the task force framework and integrating lessons learned from sister Air Logistics Centers, our workforce was ready on day one. WMS provides real-time inventory tracking and more efficient workflows, helping our team support the Ogden ALC and global military units with greater speed and accuracy."

DLA Distribution leaders view the final deployment not as an endpoint, but as the continuation of a network-wide optimization process.

"Completing the deployment phase at Hill transitions us to our next priority, enterprise-wide stabilization," said Joe Faris, deputy commander of DLA Distribution. "Our immediate focus is returning to standard operations across the network, refining daily processes, and utilizing the system's full analytical features. This stabilization effort will maximize our global network's efficiency and ensure we remain responsive and audit ready."
