LOS ANGELES - Today, Mayor Bass joined Downtown LA stakeholders, labor leaders and elected officials to officially start the expansion and modernization of the LA Convention Center. With major global events on the horizon, this expansion is a bold step to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles back to the cultural and economic hub that represents the best of what this city has to offer. "The expansion of the LA Convention Center is critical to our effort to revitalize the Downtown area, create new economic opportunities and send a message to the world that LA is ready to compete and win on the global stage," said Mayor Karen Bass. "I want to thank the City Council for taking the bold action needed to initiate this project, and I also want to acknowledge our labor leaders for their partnership as well. I look forward to working with all of our partners to deliver this expansion on-time and in a fiscally responsible manner."
Tourism is a massive economic driver and a modernized Convention Center sends a message to the world that with major global events on the horizon, Los Angeles is ready to compete and on the world stage. This project will help boost tourism, attract larger conventions and create good-paying jobs for Angelenos.
Last week, Mayor Bass joined leaders at the LA Convention Center where she signedthe final approval of the modernization and expansion of the Convention Center, marking a major milestone in her efforts to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles.

Mayor Bass has long supported the expansion and modernization of the LA Convention Center, calling for the Council to take action in both her 2024 and 2025 State of the City addresses.
