A suspected hazardous device was brought to City Hall, intended to be delivered to me, the Mayor. This prompted a response from the Santa Fe Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) bomb squad, which rendered the device safe. We are grateful to the officers and specialized personnel who responded to this serious incident and worked to protect the public, city employees, and everyone who enters City Hall.
The targeting of an elected official and the disruption of public services at Santa Fe City Hall are reprehensible acts of intimidation that will not be tolerated. Threats and acts of violence have no place in our community, and no elected official, public servant, city employee, or resident should ever have to fear for their safety while serving the public.
City Hall belongs to the people of Santa Fe. Attempts to intimidate public officials, threaten lives, or interfere with the essential functions of local government are attacks on the public's trust and our democratic institutions. These cowardly acts will not deter us from serving our residents or carrying out the work of the city.
The Santa Fe Police Department has developed investigative leads and is actively pursuing this matter. Those responsible should understand that these acts will be taken seriously, investigated thoroughly, and pursued to the fullest extent of the law. We will seek the strongest legal action available against anyone found responsible for these dangerous and deliberate acts of intimidation.
We will not be intimidated. We will not allow threats or acts of violence to derail the work of city government or undermine our responsibility to the people of Santa Fe. Our focus remains on protecting our community, supporting our employees, and ensuring that City Hall remains a place where public service can continue safely and without fear.
Santa Fe will not be governed by intimidation. Those who seek to threaten our public servants and disrupt our city's operations will be held accountable.
