Rep. Abdullahi's Statement on Federal Law Enforcement Raids of Voting Rights Organization and Advocates

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Munira Abdullahi (D-Columbus) today released the following statement regarding the FBI raid of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative's Cleveland office and their efforts to question voting rights advocates in their homes across the state:

"The federal government's raid of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative based on unsubstantiated claims of voter fraud is a gross overreach of power. The Trump administration is trying to intimidate community advocates and volunteers, all of whom are engaging in the democratic process.

Voter registration is vital to expanding civic engagement and ensuring that everyone has a voice in our government. It is the very foundation of a democratic society. This raid was specifically organized to harm the most marginalized voters that OOC helps improve access for.

We must be vigilant, now more than ever. The President has crossed a line by violating the rights of community organizers and engaging in political attacks to scare people into inaction. Now is the time for accountability, and we must defend our constituents against this abhorrent abuse of federal power.

This is more than an attack on one organization, this is an attack on Ohioans' freedom to vote, because our future depends on the decisions we make together. Hands off our vote."
