NEW YORK-The Federal Reserve Bank of New York today announced the appointment of Raymond Toenniessen to the New York Fed's Community Advisory Group.
The Community Advisory Group is comprised of leaders of nonprofits, community organizations, foundations, and anchor institutions. The primary goal of the Community Advisory Group is to provide the New York Fed, including President John C. Williams, with a real-time view of the economic issues faced by a diverse set of communities and individuals across the Second District.
Toenniessen's appointment comes in advance of the Community Advisory Group's next meeting on March 31, 2026.
Toenniessen is the deputy executive director of the D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University. In this role, he leads more than 100 employees on campus and in military communities across the country, overseeing work including the institute's 16 national training programs and community service initiatives, its research and evaluation capabilities, its coalition for veteran-owned businesses, its alumni and engagement network, and its policy efforts in Washington D.C. Toenniessen previously served as the institute's vice president for strategic initiatives and innovation.
Following graduation from Syracuse University, Toenniessen commissioned from the university's ROTC program as a second lieutenant and served four years on active duty, including a combat deployment to Iraq in 2008 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded a Bronze Star for his service.
Upon his transition from active duty in 2010, he returned to the university as the first national program manager of the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans, expanding the program nationwide through a partnership with ten business schools. He was instrumental in the formal launch of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families in 2011, serving as its first director of programs and operations. He has played a central role in growing the institute's programs and services, which have reached more than 236,000 service members, veterans, and military family members.
Toenniessen has a bachelor's degree from Syracuse in international relations and political science and an MBA from the Saunders College of Business at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
