Be Prepared for Severe Weather

Another round of potentially severe weather is forecast for this afternoon and evening, with peak activity expected between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. Possible risks include large hail, flash flooding, damaging winds, and tornadoes. If you have a life-threatening emergency, you should call 911.

Stay Informed

The best way to stay informed about severe weather is to tune into TV, radio, and weather radio. Have a battery back-up for your radios in case of power outage. We are also encourage residents to sign up for Dane County emergency alerts (also known as Rave Alerts).

Also, ensure that Wireless Emergency Alerts are enabled on your cell phone.

Please make sure your phone and other battery-powered devices are fully charged just in case we have power outages. Your local library is a good place to charge your phone if you're ever experiencing prolonged power outages.

Library Locations

Know where to go in the event of a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning. The safest places are typically interior rooms with no windows on the lowest floor as possible, ideally a basement.

It's a good idea to have a Go Kit prepared with essential items you and your household would need during an emergency. These might include flashlights, batteries, snacks, medications, phone chargers, and bottled water. Remember to include food and supplies for your pets.

There is a chance of flooding on some City streets. The following intersections have been historically prone to flash flooding:

  • E. Mifflin St. at N. Livingston St.
  • E. Mifflin St. at N. Blount St.
  • N. Third St. at E. Johnson St.
  • Grand Canyon Dr. at Odana Rd.
  • N. Midvale Ave. at University Ave.
  • University Ave. at Highland Ave.
  • Marty Rd. at Raymond Rd.
