The Walker County Tax Commissioner's office in Rock Spring will be closed to the public for renovations and repairs beginning Monday, August 24th.
The office, located in the Local Government Services building at 122 Highway 95, sustained substantial water damage in April when a pipe burst overnight, flooding several offices and public spaces.
A restoration team started work earlier this month, beginning on the second floor of the building, which houses the Assessor's office. Work on that section isn't expected to be completed until after Labor Day.
In addition to serving as a collection point for tax payments on land, homes and personal property, the Tax Commissioner handles tag and titling services for vehicles in the county.
A majority of the Tax Commissioner's staff will be relocated to the Rossville office, where additional windows will be available for the public to conduct business. The Rossville office, located at 2012 McFarland Gap Road, is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. A night drop is also available at this location.
Operations at the Planning and Zoning department, which is also located in the Local Government Services building, are not expected to be disrupted.
The building is insured.
